Taylor Olson Has Released a New Cover of Owl City’s and Carly Rae Jepsen’s Hit Song “Good Time”

December 5, 2012

Owl City’s Adam Young has joined forces with current “IT” pop star Carly Rae Jepsen for his latest single “Good Time”. The track was originally released in June, 2012 and is the seventh track in Young’s third album ‘The Midsummer Station’.

Adam Young released his third album on August 20 of this year. It is the product of collaboration with several producers, songwriters and artists like Rhianna, Ne-Yo and Blink 182 frontman Mark Hoppus. Young’s career jumped forward with “Good Time”, and soon after its release he started his UK tour in October. His shows began at London’s HMV Forum on October 25 then moved to Biringham’s HMV Library on October 26. Many fans caught up with him at Manchester Academy before Young finally finishing up at Oxford’s O2 Academy. All in all, it can be seen as a very successful UK tour.

When “Good Time” Was released earlier this year, it became an instant hit, and was quickly branded as the new summer anthem of the year. Many artist from around the world piggybacking on Young’s success have made wildly successful covers of his hit single, posting them on YouTube. A notable artist among the many is singer songwriter Taylor Olson, from Salt Lake City, Utah.

Taylor Olson writes and performs her own music but finds that also making covers of popular singles and posting them on YouTube has helped her reach a much greater audience. Taylor Olson’s cover version of “Good Time” is far from being a clone to the original- joining with fellow BYU graduate Nik Day, Taylor has added a catchy acoustic twist to their version of “Good Time”.

Before Adam Young became a celebrity, he was actually a lot like Taylor Olson. He lived in his parent’s basement in Michigan and made most of his music there. He started posting his music online, and his audience quickly grew. In 2009 he released his first single, “Fireflies,” which soon became an international hit. He is known for starting the electro-pop genre and his originality and ingenuity have made him an instant favorite.

Young received much attention for his first album, “Ocean Eyes,” but “Good Time” has just recently brought Adam back to the pop music scene. One interesting note about this single that may prove to be a game changer for Young is his decision to collaborate with other artists.

Although a shift from his usual electro music, Young’s “Good Times” is definitely worthy to be considered alongside his first hit single, “Fireflies.” It was released via Young’s SoundCloud account on June 20th, 2012.

There are several Good Time covers, but the pleasant originality of Taylor Olson’s take on this new hit makes it a must see. Taylor released her first EP this year – “Love for the Birds” – and has some great plans in store for her music career.
